When to book maternity photos, and what to bring
19 Oct 2026 · 1 min read
Maternity photographs are about remembering a short, unrepeatable season. Here's how to plan yours so it feels calm and comfortable.
The best time: 30 to 36 weeks
By about 30 weeks the bump is clearly showing, and most people are still comfortable walking and standing for an hour. After 36 weeks things can become less predictable. Enquiring in your second trimester gives us the best choice of evenings.
What to wear
Fitted dresses show the shape of the bump; long, flowing dresses catch the light and the breeze. Solid, soft colours work best. For your partner and children, choose neutrals that complement your outfit.
What to bring
- Water and a snack
- Comfortable shoes for walking to the spot, and nicer ones for the photographs
- Something warm for between photographs in the cooler months
- Anything meaningful: a scan photo, tiny shoes, a favourite toy for an older sibling
Taking it slowly
We work at your pace, with breaks and somewhere to sit. If you're unwell on the day, we'll move it. More about maternity sessions.
